Harold Steven's Story
Life
The only thing constant is change.
June 2007, O'Fallon, MO, my (she thinks) grown up, 14 year old daughter runs away from home to be with her ex-con mother. Guess it's something like the Outback Steakhouse... No Rules ~ Just Right!
June 2008, with the mortgage industry looking a lot like Humpty Dumpty, the security manager at Citimortgage in St. Louis has his job "restructured" with nearly a 20% salary loss being the result.
December 2008, accepting a job offer in FL which brings me almost back to my previous salary, I move back to Daytona to work in the automotive repair industry.
September 2009, the company is losing money, last in - first out, back to the "job search" and it looks pretty slim right now. But circumstances don't dictate my attitude, so like they say, "when one door closes, another one opens"...
Peace.
School
Wow, it's been so long...you just naturally remember the good and forget the bad. I sure wish I could get in touch with some of my old friends, but they don't come here! I often wonder what some of the really "fine" looking girls I went out with look like now...in my mind they still look the same, maybe it's better that way! Best memories were cruising with my friends! Working on Ron Leonard's 57 Chevy, Bowling on Saturday morning, Football games on Friday night, finally getting a date with Carlene Sauerwein... Worst memories were my first "steady", Karla Burgess breaking up with me, getting dumped by Maggie Galle for an older guy with a car...well, they seemed really bad THEN! HA HA Actually, my worst memories were probably going to funer...Expand for more
als for classmates, that's probably what kept me alive, finding out I wasn't immortal after all! I remember my favorite teacher was Mr Simpson who taught Physics & Chemistry, I even came back to visit him when I got out of Boot Camp...wonder what ever happened to him?
Military
I started out hating the whole thing! But somewhere along the line I changed my views and started taking advantage of the many benefits and opportunities then it was Great! I loved the Military Police, it's nothing like being a civilian cop because the rules are carved in stone and everyone knows it! So 95% of the people you come in contact with respect your position and KNOW that you have some authority to DO something definitive to change their ways!
I really enjoyed working in Berlin, the Wall was still up then and I spent countless hours in the shadow of it as the NCOIC of Check Point Charlie. I even saw my self on a documentary at about 1:00 am probably 3 or 4 years after I returned to the states...never could track down a copy of that. But I did get plenty of autographs from famous people and I'm sure I am in so many photo albums posing with people from all over the world, probably with a caption like "hanging out with the cool M.P. at Check Point Charlie"! When they tore the Wall down I wanted to go back and get a piece of it, I wanted a chunk from just around the corner from the Check Point where I just HAD to take a leak and "salute" the whole concept of that wall!!! I guess I should have settled for one of those little chunks they were selling at WalMart because I never made it back there!
